Photography Back Drop

Photography Back Drop - The Secret of Great Photographs

A photography back drop can make or break how a photograph looks. It is especially critical when you are shooting inside a studio and when you are planning on taking solo or group portraits. It is not always necessary to spend lots of money on a photography back drop since you can easily make one yourself.

Photography Back Drop- How to Make One Yourself

First, you will need some muslin fabric for this do it yourself photography back drop. You also need some basic fabric dye in the color that you would like your photography back drop to be. Curtain hangers and banister wood are necessary for hanging the photography back drop but if you have other implements in your home or studio, then they will do just as well.

To minimize mess, you can use a black trash bag for dyeing the fabric. You only have to follow the instructions on the fabric dye, but the results are often solid colored photography back drops. If you will manipulate the photograph on digital imaging software afterwards by adding other elements to the background, then keep the photography back drop in one plain color.

If you want something less opaque with more texture, then you have to stir less and let the mixture wait before stirring again. If you are more artistically inclined, then you can also use a canvas backdrop for painting images and designs for a more interesting visual edge to your photographs.

Before you can use your photography back drop, you will need to let it dry completely. If you are not satisfied with the results, you can easily buy other colors of fabric dye and start over.

If you are still convinced that it is less trouble to just buy a photography back drop, there are many websites on the Internet that offer these, mostly with plain backgrounds and others with more scenic designs and colorful patterns. When taking portraits, you want to find a photography back drop that will not clash with the clothing of the person, especially if there are busy prints in the photograph.
